Official: 2 dead in San Francisco plane crash

Officials say one person is unaccounted for and two are dead in the crash of an Asiana Airline flight.

The flight from Seoul, South Korea, crashed while landing at San Francisco International Airport local time on Saturday.

Airport spokesman Doug Yakel said 181 people were taken to local hospitals. There were a total of 307 people on board the plane — 291 passengers and 16 crew members.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Flight 214 crashed while landing before noon. Passengers could be seen jumping down the emergency slides.

Pieces of the tail were strewn about the runway.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it was sending a team of investigators to San Francisco to probe the crash.
