The government has established a war room and a press coordination centre to monitor and provide updates related to the Preah Vihear Temple’s final hearing at the International Court of Justice this month.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul (สุรพงศ์ โตวิจักรชัยกุล) appealed to the public to remain calm and understanding as the final hearing for the temple spat is approaching. He believed that the public will have a better understanding after listening to the statement of the Thai side which will be delivered at the hearing.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a media coordination centre to provide updates of the hearing while the Government House has formed a war room, chaired by Secretary-General to the Prime Minister Suranand Vejjajiva (สุรนันทน์ เวชชาชีวะ), to monitor the situation and coordinate with the press centre. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra (ยิ่งลักษณ์ ชินวัตร) will also monitor the live broadcast of the hearing.

Thai Ambassador to Cambodia Touchayoot Pakdi (ธัชชยุติ ภักดี) said that the overall situation in Phnom Penh has been peaceful since Cambodians in general are very confident that the World Court will once again rule in favour of Cambodia similar to the verdict delivered in 1962.

He requested that members of the public respect the verdict of the case no matter how it is ruled for the sake of the healthy Thai-Cambodian relations.
