Poll shows 40% of Bangkokians think polls unreliable

(16/02/13) A survey by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) shows that 39 percent of Bangkok voters think poll results have been tampered with “by political groups”. Only 31 percent think otherwise.

The survey by NIDA also said that 52 percent of voters think polls are “moderately reliable”. Nineteen percent think they are “highly reliable”, while about 18 percent think they are “hardly reliable”.

Asked whether they think poll results will truly reflect the election result, 35 percent responded positively, saying that surveys by different polling agencies had produced similar results. About 31 percent, however, said that opinion polls will not truly reflect the election result because there are still a large number of swing voters.

When asked whether poll results may influence people’s voting decisions, 71 percent of respondents said no, citing that most people already have their favorite candidates in mind. Only 17 percent said poll results may influence people’s decision especially those who remain undecided.

This survey stems from recent popularity polls on the Bangkok governor election and allegations that results were rigged to favor a particular candidate.
