Pongsapat linked to building mess Part A

Pongsapat Pongcharoen

(10/02/13) The Democrat Party has accused former deputy national police chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen (พงศพัศ พงษ์เจริญ) of involvement in the police station contract fiasco.

At the same time, Democrat spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut (ชวนนท์ อินทรโกมัลสุต) blamed the Pheu Thai government for allowing hundreds of police stations to remain unbuilt.

With three weeks to go before the election for Bangkok governor, Mr. Chavanond claimed Pheu Thai candidate Police General Pongsapat endorsed the terms of reference for the construction of the stations in 2009.

He said the terms allow the Royal Thai Police Office to give an advance payment of 15 percent of the construction price to the contractor.

He demanded that the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) interrogate Police General Pongsapat, whose main rival for Bangkok governor is the Democrats’ MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra (สุขุมพันธุ์ บริพัตร).

Earlier, the DSI blamed former Democrat secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban (สุเทพ เทือกสุบรรณ) for the problem.

Mr. Suthep was a deputy prime minister who supervised the police office when it awarded the police station construction contract worth about six billion baht to PCC Development and Construction.

Mr. Chavanond demanded the DSI finish interrogating Police General Pongsapat before the Bangkok governor election.
