OIC envoys satisfied with Thailand’s handling of Rohingya migrants

(31/01/13) Envoys of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have expressed satisfaction with measures and assistance provided by the Thai government in handling the influx of Rohingya migrants as they visited the south this morning.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichachaikul (สุรพงษ์ โตวิจักษณ์ชัยกุล) today led 17 OIC diplomats to visit a group of 27 female Rohingya detainees along with 79 children in Songkhla (สงขลา) province.

Songkhla Governor Kritsada Boonrach (กฤษดา บุญราช) said that the overall health of the detainees, since they were brought to the shelter, has improved as they are provided with adequate food and medical care.

The OIC diplomats also visited another group of Rohingya migrants accommodated at shelter in Pattani (ปัตตานี) province.

The foreign envoys said that they were satisfied with the situation and will determine whether the migrants should be sent back to their country of origin or transferred to a third country in the region.
